New owner what do ya'll think?

1961 15' Starcraft Runabout 40 horse Johnson

No leaks. Runs good. I'm the third owner.

I've never owned a boat, much less a relic.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Do you know exactly which model it is? Will you post some more pics of interior and more closeups? Looks pretty original from what I can see. Welcome to the SC Fleet.

Re: New to Forum

I have no idea. It was listed as 15' 1961 Starcraft Runabout. It's in my driveway now.

No leaks. Original everything other than they put in chairs for fishing.

63' Johnson 40hp motor...Runs great.

My question..(first of many) where do I start? Do I caulk? Do I paint? Do I ignore?

I paid 800. Trailer, depth finder, jackets, original back seat, motor.

I guess I'm asking. What is my first step?

Thanks all!\

Well if you want it to look brand new again, work on one thing at a time. You might want to check the floors in it to start with, make sure that everything is good and solid. Investigate for any signs of rot anywhere in the boat, safety should be your first priority.

Does it leak? Does it run? Enjoy the boat while the season is here.

You can do just about anything you like with that boat...... we are Starcraft addicts here!!

Here is a link (Thank you North Beach) to Starcraft restorations to get an idea what other's are doing including me! http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=385090

Welcome aboard Derek! You'll find a wealth of knowledge on this site. I'm in the beginning stages of my first restoration and have found everyone to be friendly and helpful. Search the different threads and you'll find answers to most any question that you have. Ask questions and post lots of pics. That's a great looking boat you picked up! Good luck with it.

Re: New to Forum

if it runs and doesnt leak then enjoy it for now! aluminum boats are REALLY easy to work on. Realisticly, you can replace the deck, transom and paint it for a few hundred bucks. but if everything is in good shape, maybe slap a coat of rustoleum on it and call it a day!
