evinrude 1985 70hp with vro no spark

my symptom is no spark. it was running just fine last time out. in the past it was the vro pump diaframs that were bad but not this time. the manuals stink. is there a way i can bypass the vro pump and sensors to check other components?

Have you tested the lanyard safety switch first? They go bad and ground out the powerpack preventing spark, ignition switch can go bad too.
