I have a 19' center console that has some soft wood in the transom.
Will the deck have to be taken off the hull? Or can I repair it from the out side.(outer hull) I have a 125HP Merc. hanging on the transom. If I cut away the soft wood and replace it with resin soaked ply wood, then glass over to the thickness of the outer skin with additional glass cloth over the gunnel, will that support the engine? Has anyone had this type of project? I would appreciate any tips from your experience.

hi....welcome to iboats.

this place is boat university.

a soft spot in the transom is common.

you will need to pull your motor off to do the repair.
the repair is done form the INSIDE.

the deck.....has different meanings.
the deck is the floor....it is also the cap of the boat.

so if you are asking if your cap has to come off....possibly, yes it might.
if you are asking if your floor has to come out...possibly it might.

if the infected area is small enough that you can router it out and replace a patch thats great.

however....if your transome is shot.....read up on this forum.

cheers
