i was wondering if its possible to use a square with spline upper swivel pin in place of a square with square if you used the splined lever also.mercruiser wants 294.00 for the swivel pin.i happed to have an older gimbal with tite steering that i could disaaemble.any help appreciated.it would be going in a 1995 mercruiser gen2.

Why do you need to replace it? If there is play side to side in the outdrive, you may just have to retorque the gimbal ring clamping screws to tighten things back up.
