1985 Evinrude 140 "from back" right side will not fire

Hi I have 1985 Evinrude motor and last year the motor was going great. Untill the end of the season when it started to start really hard. It would run for a second then shut off and continue doing this untill it reved right up and ran after that, this happened for a while untill it completly stopped running. This year I have had a mechanic look at it and cleaned all the carbs and checked the compression and they where all good he determined that it is something electrical. It will run at a ideal but run really bad and it seems that only the "from the back" the left side is running and the right side does not run at all. I changed power pack and all the coils on the back of the motor and it still has the same problem. Any sugestions? and is this the Evinrude motor that shuts off two cylinders when at low ideal? could that have something to do with it?

First, check your spark with a spark tester on the cylinders you think are bad. If it's electrical then you'll see it at the spark. Should be a thick blue spark at 1/2 inch gap.

Assuming it is electrical... If you've got new power pack and coils on that side and it's still not running right then you can also check the stator. Disconnect the 4-wire connector between power pack and stator. I believe the white wire should be the ground. On the stator side, check for resistance between the ground and each of the other 3 wires. Should read anywhere between 9 and 25 ohms on all three.

Check with your local library to see if they have a shop manual that covers your motor.

I have a Friend with the Same exact issue...
Please let me know if u find out what the issue is.. I will try to call and find something out also.

Seams to be no Fire what so ever to Right side but yet left fires great..
Coils test good but not getting anything to right side coils. and not sure if they fire at same time..
