im confused electric shift

so i been reading and been told electric shift stopped being put in boats from 77 on.
well i have an 85 thundercraft 3.0 omc with omc outdrive. Im pretty sure its electric shift. it has one cable coming from throttle and have the module in the back.
Could someone have put in an electric drive unit?? possibly

I will get them up tommorow night, id would definatley like some input on what i got from the webs finest boat mechanics. This site is great. tonnes of reading on here thats for sure.
