HI All

new to this.. i am looking at my first boat purchase a 1996 Spectrum 16' sport 75 HP all aluminum fishing/Ski boat is this any good for saltwater ? it should be since the deep V hull type. mostly fishing in the San Francisco Bay area.
like Bay fishing ? i went to see it yesterday and besides not being very cleaned it is in pristine condition,
is the price tag correct ?

the price tag is extremely high, as the boat and motor are no longer being built. the boat is fine, you will need salt water anoides attached, to keep the salt from attacking the alluminum. But the motor has a lot of necessary parts that are already no longer available. Force has been a bastard simple motor since the beginning, it has been own by several companies the last being Brunswick (MERCURY).

I had one for 7 years, large, and roomy.

But hated it in rough water.
The boat is stern heavy, and the angle of the bow is very shallow, resulting in a boat that would porpoise when hitting even the slightest of wave action. Always had to throttle down to just barely on plane, and that created a constant bow rise condition.

The boat is very light, except for in the stern.
It is also light gauge aluminum, too light in my opinion.
The entire boat was kind of "light duty."
I had stress ripples in the hull from the waves hitting the hull, you could see where every support was welded to the inside of the hull.

It was their first attempt at a welded hull.
I hated the way it handled. with no external reinforcing ribs - the boat would "wash out" or slide when turning.

And yes the price is high, try $3500

I have been in the bay in a boat similar to it, I think it is way too light for SF bay, but would be great in the sac river and the delta

Wind and waves come up too fast in the bay you should be looking at something with a little more weight and maybe 17 18 feet
