1995 200hp Mercury EFI Alarm

Does this particular motor have an alarm that sounds when the key is turned on? I am about to buy a used boat and when you turn the key on it does not seem to have the beep.

This is a highly disputed question... From all the research I've done, this was about the time that Merc reportedly changed from a test beeping alarm system to a non test beep alarm system becasue of customer complaints. They went back to it around 1998-99 because of a greater number of customer complaints. Or... so the story goes. The best bet is to call Merc with the alarm module part nr that's painted on the outside of the module.

You can and should test the alarm system regularly according to the procedures outlined in the Merc Service Manual.

Thanks for your response. I will give Mercury a call with the number. The mechanic at the place that is selling the boat said the same thing about it might alarm or might not. Of course he told me that after he said that when you first turn the key you will get an alarm and it did not alarm. So that is what has me curious.

My 1995 225 Mercury has the beep alarm

my 98 225 EFI 3.0 doesn't have a beep alarm on turning the key on...just the warning lights on a gauge for fuel oil and temp.
