I was wondering if you feel it's inappropriate to go to a job interview on a large scooter or not. The only reason I ask is that when I would get where I'm going the helmet would have done a number to my hair (what little is left up there) and I'd be sweating pretty heavily due to the extreme south Louisiana heat. I can comb my hair when I get there, but I can't dry out that fast, even in air conditioning! LOL It's about 30 miles away so I'd prefer to use my bike if I can because of the fuel savings.

What do you guys and gals think? Think it's unprofessional to show up to an interview sweating? Everybody sweats down here, but I mean a job interview is formal. The job is for a helicopter mechanic.

Is there somewhere nearby, where you can change clothes and "fresen up" a bit, before the interview?

Unless the job is for a ditch-digger, sweat-soaked, is usually not a desirable element for an job interview. You could just explain, but I'd just find somwhere to change. Most people are a bit self consience during a job interview anyway, so hot and sweaty won't help, IMO.

Good luck on the interview.

Arrive early, comb your hair.....maybe find a washroom and freshen up. Pocket hand sanitizer does a great job and has a cooling effect too.

Good luck ;)

Tell them the reason you're all disshevelled is that on the way to the interview, you passed by a Life Flight chopper at an accident site that couldn't take off due to a broken discombobulator, and you heroically repaired it with a toothpick and some chewing gum, saving a life.

Get there early. Most places have a restroom available, use it to freshen up, don a fresh shirt, comb your hair, etc.
First impressions are important, but more important is how you present yourself during the interview. You can parlay the scooter ride as an example of your fiscally responsible, 'green' attitude.

Best of luck with the interview!!

If you have a car with air conditioning or can borrow one, then drive there. You can always use the scooter after you get the job. Good jobs aren't real easy to find down here (I'm in New Orleans) right now, try to make the best impression you can. Might not make any difference being drenched in sweat, but it sure won't help.

Another option is to taxi, or scooter till close, then taxi in the last 3 miles in air cond comfort.

Best bet is to beg borrow or steal a car.

+1 on get a car. Even if its "just a mechanics" job. Whatever you choose to wear you want it to be pressed and neat. Everybody sure does sweat, but the last thing you want is pit back and *** sweatstains when showing up for an interview.

Also... if the interviewer has ever lost anybody to a motorcycle accident, you showing up on a scooter with no helmet pretty much garuntees you don't get the job... you'll come across as reckless to them.

Dress to impress my friend.

You are planning on to and from a job 30 miles away and only have a scooter? Gez man .dont let them know that because its hard to get to work on time riding a scooter that far DURING A HEAVY RAIN, What are your plans to deal with this?.The first impression I get from and adult male on a scooter is DWI.you dont need to give this..

Yeah...Im wondering why the scooter is the only form of transportation...could you please tell us why this is?...Kinda funny...if its a "top of the line" scooter and the rider is properly outfitted...their "going green"...but anything less than the best, everyone just thinks its a liquor cycle...Presentation...!

I think his scooter, isn't the 50 or 100cc version that pops to mind, as his Avtar is similar looking to a 650 Burgman...Which, can move along pretty good...Think, Goldwing for the less Hardcore.

Too bad you can't show up in a helicopter! That would make an impression! No one would care about your hair either. :)

Good luck, I hope you get the job.

in the OP the scooter appears to be considered for feul savings...

30 Miles away???..HELLO..what are we talking a gallon of gas? Take your car!!

If car is not an option, then pick up a Suit bag and put all your stuff in it...stop off at a gas station that is near by and change, dry and do what you do...then finish the trip..

Re: Going to a job interview on a motorcycle (scooter)

I'm sorry, I gave the wrong impression. I have a truck with an AC that's ice cold, but it only gets about 20mpg. My bike gets 50 on a bad day. Yes, that guy is right. My scooter is a 400cc, 100mph machine. When you think scooter, you think a 50cc putt putt bike. This bike is capable of 100mph with 2 people. It's not "just a scooter", it's basically a 400cc automatic motorcycle. In case anyone wants to look it up, google "yamaha majesty 400".

That being said, I decided to treat myself and took my truck. I rode in air conditioned comfort all the way there and back, but unfortunately could watch my gas gauge go down. For sure, there went 5 dollars in gas. But it's ok, the AC was wonderful!
