I am having problems getting my Mercury 500 to run proper this 1977 50 hp does not want to rev up unless I squeeze the fuel bulb.Replaced spark plugs with surface gap type, new fuel filter, tank and fuel lines and ordered new kits for carbs and fuel pumps. My question is

If I take one carb unit off one at a time and am care full with the linkage can I avoid the LINK N SYNC thing ?Looks like a lot might have to come off to remove the carbs.Gladly listen to anyone who has done this.
Thanks Mike with the list of problems with this thing, going to need a longer summer!

You should still do a linc and sync since now the carbs could be completely different. Like there could be some varnish build up in a port and you may have that idle screw set far out. So now you will want to do it to make sure one carb isn't leaned out too much.

Okay Tower of Power,my thinking was I might make matters worse trying to set the timing as stated in the other post on the subject.Still like to hear from somebody who has done a older 500 and got it right.
