Hi I have a 1988 Sea Ray with a Mercruiser 350 V8 5.7 MCM I/O engine and this is probably a stupid question but appreciate any help anyone could give me. I wanted to drain the engine oil however not sure how to do it. Does anyone have a guide or give me a step by step on how to do this. Do I need to suck the old oil out with a pump?

Thanks,

Yes, you put a suction pump on the dipstick tube while the engine oil is warm, the tube goes right to the low point in the pan.

Thanks for the quick response, do they sell these pumps at walmart or do I have to go to a boat store?

Your dipstick tube should have a hose fitting on it. If you don't have an adapter, you can run the hose down the dipstick tube, it'll flow a little slower, but still works well.

Re: 1988 Sea Ray Question

I know some of you will have a problem with this but, I pull the drain plug out the oil pan and let drain into the bilge, I put a catch pan under the bilge drain hole to catch the oil, I use brake parts cleaner and rags to wipe out the bilge. I like to drain it this way to drain any gunk out of the oil pan, I dont think pumping it through the dipstick gets the crud outta the pan.

Just my opinion!
