I have a sea king boat trailer with 4.8-8 tires on an integral hub with L44649 bearings. I don't know much about hubs/wheels but the bearing definitely need replaced and I would like to go ahead and change the hubs. Does anyone know of a 4 or 5 stud hub that will work with my setup? I have a sketch of the axle/spindle attached with dimensions.

I'm thinking one of these might work.... ?

You can get a bearing kit like this to replace the bearings, races and seal.
http://www.etrailer.com/p-BK1-150.html What sort of axle does the trailer have (e.g. 2000 lb, 3500 lb, etc)? And have you verified that both the inner and outer bearing have the same inner diameter? Just asking as some axles will have different diameters for the inner / outer bearings.

Here's a good video on replacing bearings and races - http://www.etrailer.com/tv-remove_inspect_reinstall_trailer_bearings.aspx. And another to determine the lug pattern that you need - http://www.etrailer.com/faq-wheel-bolt-pattern.aspx.

Re: hubs for boat trailer - diagram attached

Thanks for the response. The trailer is small and was designed to pull a small sailboat ... i've modified to pull a 16 foot canoe. Trailer is only designed to support 250 pounds in addition to the trailer weight (150 pounds). I don't know what weight the axle/spindle will handle but I made a sketch of it with dimensions here: http://forums.iboats.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=57381&d=1277187509

Trailer is 30+ years old ... I've fixed up everything on it but the wheels. The tires are shot--integral hub rims are rusty and could probably be salvaged with some work but I prefer replacing them completely since you can buy tires with rims for a fair price and I want to go to a studded hub anyway. -- I want to buy a studded hub kit with everything included (hub, bearings, seal, cap, lug nuts) that will work with the spindle I have then purchase tires with rims to fit the new hub. I just don't know exactly which kit I need. Did the hub kits in my original post look correct?

Inner and outer bearings are the same -- bearings 1-1/16 inch L44649 --- 1-1/4 inch seal

One thing to watch out for when replacing an older integral hub is the actual hub journal length, center from rear casting edge to front casting edge. Most standard hubs are about 4". Yours is closer to 3-1/2" according to your diagram. You would need to make sure to buy a short hub. I have done this exact changover in the past as the integral hubs are a pain. The only problem is I had to get 5 lug because I could not find short hubs in a 4 lug version.

Here are the ones that I purchased.

Thats correct. I believe the races were already presses in the hubs, but you will need to get everything else.

the new hubs worked out well. used the spacer and spindle nut from the original setup and had to re-use the old dust caps since I couldn't get the new ones to fit. thanks all!

Glad it worked out for you. I just went through heck with my older trailer trying to find hubs for really weird stepped spindles. I ended up scrapping it and just getting a complete axle from TSC.
