trying to confirm model year

I have a 25hp Mercury outboard - 2 stroke, two cylinder
serial# 945 0208

i have tried to use the sites listed above to identify the year of the motor, but have not been able to get two answers that are the same.

Name Plate reads:
Serial # 945 0208
Marine Power Europe Inc.
made in Belgium

Any ideas,

if you pull the cover off and check around the block you should find a quarter sized plug or frost plug that has the model and serial stamped on it...

it should...unless some work was done that changed that..meaning if a new powerhead was installed...

Any idea what year the engine is? even a guess?? I saw a website that has mercury outboard number cross refferences but all show the 25 horse a a model 250.. i could not locate the serial number range you had..but then again it was broken out by year..

on one of the websites listed above I narrrowed it down to 1986 - but no other site can confirm this

based on the numbers if your serial number is between number changes..example 6593849 is the start range of 1985 year and the next set is a911346 is start of 1986

then your engine falls in the 1985 year.

Your engine is a 1986 MERCURY 25 E, Model number 1025506.

Your service manual from mercury is part number 90-435093 That covers engines 18/20/25 HP.

How the heck did you find all of that??. Eveything I could find showed it as a 85...
