Second day of vacation, second day out on the water for the season. Hit a floating object while crusing the lake trying to burn off some old gas. Whatever was hit ended up knocking off some gelcoat about 6" long, running stern to bow, and about 1" up the transom. Any suggestions for how to repair this? See attached pictures.

Welcome to iboats!

Wow that was quite a hit

When are you going to repair it right? Are you still enjoying a vaca? If you are on vacation get some marine epoxy stick and smear a light coat on it to keep water intrusion minimum.

Otherwise it needs to be repaired with fiberglass and gel coat repair.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm still on vacation, and wasn't planning to do any repairs until we were home. Is the marine epoxy something that would typically be carried at a boat store? Any specific type\kind that I should ask for?

West Marine is arguably the best, and most widely carried.

That is a nasty gouge

Marine Tex, PC-11 are two names of products that would work. HD and Lowe's even carry resin, hardener and some mat that would get you by until you got home.
