two line tank leaks

I have two 2-line tanks for my 1955ish 5.5 Johnson. (Ser 1561027; Mod # CD-14). Both have pin-hole leak(s). One also has some rust. The mechanisms, pump button, gauge, cap, line connectors, are all fine.

Does anyone sell a replacement tank, or an generic tank to which my Johnson "plate" could be attached, or can the bottom of these tanks be cut out and and replacement welded in? Other ideas?

Motor runs well; sounds so sweet. It's all good to go!

a good welder could do it. it is just steel and gas.

JB weld and a screw could work if it isn't totally rusted out. Used that on my old Ford pickup fuel tank with no trouble. Just shine up the metal around the hole, apply a coat of JB, then screw in a panhead screw into the pinhole. MAke sure the tank is tilted so that no gas is washing out. However, this will not work if the tank is rusted through(kinda like the little Dutch boy plugging the hole in the dike).

Your Ford tank wasn't holding pressure. This tank will be. I would get it welded or toss it. I don't know how but many say you can convert your motor to a single line suction pump which I would pursue if it were mine. Best of luck. Rick.

Thanks all, for these ideas. I'm wary of buying another used tank as that's how I got my second tank, which now leaks (did get 3 years out of it). I think I'll check with a welder. If to pricey,the JB weld (whatever that is) and screw sounds good, though I worry about remaining rust on tank bottom that will possiby get into the fuel system.

Other suggestions welcome, if these haven't covered the waterfront.

I am trying not to be critical and I'm not usually a worry wart but if you try the JB Weld fix buy a good quality fire extinguisher with the money your saving. Rick.
