oil at flame aresster

Is it normal to have oil blowing out of the hose on the aresster. if so how much is normal. sorry I have a 1986 mercruiser 170 IO

It is normal to have a little misting from these hoses, especially if you rev and let off throttle. Oil blowing out is not good. May mean a hole in piston. Do a compression check to verify.

Thanks for the reply. the motor runs great. no I did not do a compression check.

Another thought is that your crankcase is over filled. Be it with oil, or possible water intrussion.
