I got a free boat and ran it a couple of times, with not alot of problems. Now all of the sudden when I turn the key, the bendix on the starter will no pop up like it should to spin over the motor. I have just recently bought a rebuilt starter, and still having the same problem. Now Im leaning towards the solenoid. Any input or advice would be helpful.

Bad battery?

2 starters should not be bad, if the solenoid closes and puts the power to the starter, it should kick in and crank the motor.

I would try again with a known fully charged battery.

See I was thinking that it may be the battery because I used to have to take the battery out of my truck and put it in my boat to jump it off before I could go and run the river, so I bought a new battery(450cca). Now Im still having the same problem after a new battery and 2 starters.

Are either of those starters spinning over at all? They need to in order to throw the pinion up and engage the flywheel. If you are getting nothing the associated connections, wiring, solenoid and switch would be the next places to check.

You can discover the source of the resistance by performing a voltage drop test.

The usual causes of your symptoms are failing battery cables, which corrode inside the sheathing and can no longer carry the load for a starter, and the starter solenoid. Try removing and cleaning the battery connections at the battery and the engine first.

I will try the battery connections, but I dont think thats where its at, considering its been ran twice on new battery and battery leads.
