My dad is working on a restoration of this old motor, and although it turns over and gives a good bark, it is not yet running. It looks like we are on the hunt for coils, points, and condenser for this motor. He feels that everything else on the motor is in serviceable condition.

Unfortunately, we don't have a parts catalogue. Does anybody have advice on where the best spot would be to get these parts? We are in Canada, and I don't mind bringing them across the border if we have to, but my main concern is how I figure out exactly what we need, and where to find them.

thanks in advance for your help.

Those OMC's, 2hp - 40hp used the same coils from 1951 through about 1974. They'll be available till the world ends. Those are awesome motors and great restoration projects. I had a 53 RD Johnson. I kinda wished I had restored it, but oh well. I'll find another.

If you need anything else for that gem, here are a couple other places you might check.

thanks for your help guys. He went to a local dealer, and it seems that there may be availability for some of these parts. What is the best way to find out the part #'s for points, coils, and condenser for a '52 Bigtwin? Unfortunately we don't have a parts manual.

They are listed here at iboats for the Sierra aftermarket parts. Hit the Boat Motor Parts link at the top of the screen.
There are the manufacturer's parts lists for the 1955 model at marineengine.com
The ignition parts are the same.
