Hope someone is here that can help me. I just purchase this boat and think i have a over heating problem. As i got the boat starter and running. I had the water inlet cover with water baffel to let water run through to keep ot cool. After a few minutes. The over heat alrm sounded. I believe the impeller is not working. Not sure. So how would one find out? And how hard is it to get in there to replace it and where to get the parts. Is there a Boat for dummies lol .. Please help thanks

If you don't know when it wa last replaced you should definitly replace it. Not that difficult if you are somewhat mechanically capable. Read the sticky at the top of this forum, "step by step impeller change". You also may have other issues that may be causing an overheat but impeller change is a good place to start.
Good luck

Re: 1989 Bayliner with Force 125 HP

i changed my impeller and the hardest part was getting the hidden bolt back in as I was not able to get the exhaust cone off, but with a swivel socket an extension and a wad of bubble gum I managed to get it done. it helps to have some one to raise the motor if yours leaks down like mine does. i placed a block of wood under the lower unti to support it. toook out all the bolts while my son raised the motor I guided the shaft out. 4 bolts a little cooking oil and back together nothing to it so far. putting the lower unit back in was a little different. make sure everything you took off the shaft goes back on in order,I got it all back together with only this many pieces left over lol. i know this from experience. have someone raise the motor and slide the shaft bck in I used a screw jack to help lift it back up had to tun the prop and shaft a little to get it back in. all in all it wasnt that hard to do. hope this helped I gotten alot of help here, tryin to pass some along

After you've done it yourself 1 time, it's real hard to understand why people take their boat to the shop and pay large $$$$ for this service. The second time you do this, it will take less time than a tow to the shop!!
