ok no. but i am pretty frustrated and stumped. if anyody as any advice.

*compression is 125 to 130 in all the cylinders

*fuel pump diaphram is ok.

*no restrictions in the lines going from tank to carbs

*carbs are cleen all jets clean.

*spark tester lights up the same on all three spark plugs so coil packs seem ok

* all the carbs are in sync with each other ( plates )

*Brand new spark plugs in there and wires are new.

* all throttle cables all look ok. I mean everything looks ok.

So whats happening is the dang thing is bogging down and dying when i give it gas more than 1800 rpm.

It runs great when idling. and revs up great when no load.

We tried to take the flywheel off to look at the stator and trigger today but our batteries died on our wireless impact. so we got a guy that said he will come out with us on thursday and test run it because he will only be able to tell whats wrong on the water with the load on it. hes the one that said check the stator after i told him what is doing

Try pulling a plug wire off of #1 cylinder at idle. See if it has any affect. Simple test to check spark.

I checked all the plugs with an electrical tester but i cant understand it. They were the same though idling in neutral out of the water. It only bogs down with a load on it.

I told a boat mechaninc the symptoms and he said its the stator and trigger but hes coming to look at it on thursday.

Im ready to give up

i am no expert but my 125 did the same thing and what the problem was is the float bowls were set too low and would not let enough fuel in it ran good until under load at the same rpm your runs then bogged out and shut off unless i backed out of it. i readjusted the float settings and and it ran like a top. if you have not tryed this hope it helps.

I've got a 1992 120 l drive in a maxum that is doing this too. Mine goes up to 2500 rpm and boggs down in gear, doesn't die though. Starts fine and idles good. Revs up in neutral good. I changed stator, trigger, plugs, and next is switch box. I changed diaphram and all lines, cleaned carbs with new needles and gaskets. I had a real weak spark on #1 though, so I am replacing the switch box next. I figured if I replaced everything...it will run like new!!! LoL.

Re: L-Drive (1991 90hp) Wont rev higher than 1800 rpm & bogs out and dies.

ok like a month later. It seems this boat was way more than i expected.

anyway I found out what the problem was. So when we took it out for our test runs (read other thread) and it wouldnt reach 5300 rpm or w.o.t. i knew something was wrong. We did have it to 4100 rpm but it was losing power. I decarbed the engine and i think thats what did it but im not sure but anyway it is the stator.

It turns out that on this particular motor there is a high speed and low speed part of the stator. the rpm or tach stopped working on our boat and i didnt know why but it turns out that the high speed side of the stator went out and when that happens the rpm gauge will stop working too.

Im in the process of trying to come up with the dough to buy the stator but i should have it soon and hopefully thats it now except having to clean the leather and stuff.

thanks everybody for all your help.
