Re: Anyone Know on this one?

Sure is coming along great! Looks really good. Did you use any sealer on the screws holding the trim on? If not, it would be a good idea. Will help keep water out of the wood.

Looks like you will be on the water in no time.

Re: Anyone Know on this one?

I ended up replacing screws with phillip head screws instead the standard screws. (some where missing)

when I replaced them I finger filled screw holes with water proof caulking before I placed the trim back on.. Be honest I did not think of it at the time... One of my co-workers suggested it to me when I was working on last side. Its the suggestions everyone gives me that keeps me out of trouble.. keep them coming please! :D

Great looking boat. You are doing a fine job bringing it back to life. No doubt you will be getting many good looks and questions by others once you get it on the water. I plan to build a wood boat once I get some other projects finished. Once agin, nice job and beautiful boat.

I installed the solenoid last night.. I didn't have much time to play, but I did attempt to fire the motor up.. I did get the motor to turnover after few attempts. but I was not able to keep the motor running. I will get a carb kit and rebuild the carb. That way I know where I am. I probly jumped the gun and should of rebuilt the carb first. But the curiosity got to me..:p

From my way of thinking I believe I'd have done it the same way. At least now that you can turn'er over it will also make it that much easier to check compression and spark and get a more reliable reading.

Sounds like you're haveing a good time with this at least! Progress is so satisfying.

Re: Anyone Know on this one?

I made it home this morning from work.. I had my "honey do list" to do first since I have been gone for 3 days and then headed back to work to approve time cards and was placed back to work on a emergency call. But made it back home at 4 pm. I went to Ace and bought some starter fluid and carb. cleaner and attempted to start the motor.. Great.. I can get it to run.. It sputters a little and dies when I turn the throttle down.. But it Runs.. my concerns is .... it will not pee... I didnt run it long at all.. I am not sure if I placed the impeller correct or not.. I thought I read somewhere on here that the impeller will correct its self.. I know I have read a thread somewhere on "Not Peeing" I dont want to push my luck so I need to start trouble shooting here.. I am excited.... IT STARTED..... Even thou I am going to search here. Does anyone have suggestions? SOOOO HAAPPPPYYY! so far..

:):):)

I have a Bryant boat. It is wood, 18 feet and is a cuddy cabin, even still has the porcelain toilet in it. It is licensed as a 1956, and sits on a 1953 tandem axle caulkins trailer. All in great shape.

Re: Anyone Know on this one? Can't help, BUT.....

Ooooo' mmm yum, it looks like it'll take a while (this fall/winter) :) but darn it looks like you got something there. Sorry I'v no information as I'm all novice here, but a quick learner, but looking at what little there was in the photo, I'm liking what I'm seeing I think any damaged grain could be fixed or airbrushed, But once you get her water worthy and functional, !!!?!!:)..........well I'm jellous..!

Congrats it breaths!
First thing, did/do you have the lower unit deep enough in the water. Pump needs to be submerged. Next I'm not sure if those Evinrudes had a telltale or not but I do believe the water expells from the upper exhaust holes and should come out as a spray like my old 18hp.

Re: Anyone Know on this one?

Back at work today.. I was thinking little the same " was it submerged far enough" I did have the fin under and the intake screen. But only by an inch or so.. Tomorrow when I get home I will either take it down to the lake (just a block away) or raise the barrel up higher.. To see what happens. I read somewhere on a thread that the motor may need to be submerged further then i have it.. Its worth trying before I get to deep into tear down..

Re: Anyone Know on this one?

I need some Help, I have the motor running.. I filled up the can full of water and it starts pretty easily. But every motor I have had in the past pee's.. I get exhaust out of the port along with fine mist. What I see is more bubbling happening down by the fin. Is this normal for this motor? can anyone give me suggestions what is happening or is this normal. Motor does not seem to be overheating. Every indicator hole I remember seeing is alot smaller. This tube is more like an exhaust tube. see attached photos. Thanks...:confused:

Re: Anyone Know on this one?

Hey MT,

I bought EVERYTHING I needed to rebuild my 40 hp 1960 Evinrude Lark from this site

http://www.laingsoutboards.com/newp...ncludes Gale, Sea King up to 1963, and others

for under $300. Carb Kits, Magnetos, Generator, Plugs, Wires EVERYTHING. I figured if I was going to tear into her and she had been sitting for over 5 years, I wanted to make sure it was ALL Fresh so bit the bullet, bought everything new and my brother in law is rebuilding her from the ground up. She had 120 lbs compression on both cylinders so she should run like new when we get er done!

You might want to think about it.

I'm just sayin...:D
