Not sure what kind of bolts they send, I broke 4 of them.

I needed six longer bolts for the brackets on the immediate side of the out drive. Couldn't find them in stainless steel- so I went with the same metal that trailers are made of.. hopefully they work..

In the end it sure was an experience. Next time I might investigate how much to have it installed, but after paying 1500 (out the door) for it, my funds for it were exhausted! :)

Re: Finished The Swim platform..

swimplatforms.com factory is local to me so I had them install it for additional $200. Either way I would install it my self.

Good job on the Install. Your more daring than I am.

The money is well worth it. Its a must have with Kids.

Galvanized bolts don't sound like a good idea to me, you might want to rethink and use the right hardware.

Was going to mention that galvanized aren't a good choice either. It's not a "change it now" thing, but I would try to get the right ones.

If you have a West Marine they will definitely have SS bolts, or else I have found that Ace Hardware has a much better selection than Lowe's or Home Depot and also better prices and you can also buy them individually instead of by the pack.

Looks good! :)
How does the platform secure on the inside of the boat?
Gives the boat a much newer appearance.
Will this have any effect on making the boat plane?

Re: Finished The Swim platform..

Yea I figured I'd have to change the galvanized bolts out. Like I said the boat had been out for a week or two and I just didn't have time to search out the right size SS bolt, I wanted to go f'in boating!!

Doesn't have any effect on the boats plane, but man does it make it feel bigger!

The best improvement so far has been boarding the boat from the rear while at the dock. There's no more walking down a tiny shaky finger dock at all. Etc.

The one negative thing so far (which I'm going to see if I can figure something out) is...

Out in long island sound there's typically a lot of waves..

Well......if the wind is blowing and you're NOT on anchor (just floating around in the sound) . What typically happens is the nose swings around away from the source of the wind.

Meaning the rear of the boat takes the brunt of the waves....

With Many miles of ocean out there, it is typical to just motor out into the sound for 15 or so minutes and kill the engine.

If you do this, with the wave action and the holes in the platform (I assume they are there to release pressure).what ends up happening is a BLOW HOLE of sorts. Compressed air and water go shooting straight up out of the swim platform "vents" and while it's not that much, it's def enough to get the inside of the boat wet and have salt water allllllll over the place.

Next time I'll just throw the anchor and hopefully the wind will take the water/air backwards off the platform into the water, not into the boat :)

They have decent supply of SS hardware at Lowes too . . .

You might try a "sea anchor" of some type. Will keep the bow facing wind and swells without setting an actual anchor. You can make them out of a 5 gallon pail:

Looks great dude,

I wish I had that when I had my Bayliner... It adds so much space... I also would suggest stainless hardware...

Yes, they sent stainless with it, but six of the bolts (out of 18) were not long enough. I had no other options unless I wanted to wait, went and visited ALL the hardware places in my area...

So I just subbed six bolts above the water line (but they still get dunked) for the SS

A good online source for stainless (or many other types) of fasteners that you can buy in individual quantities is boltdepot.com

Nice platform! Great addition to any boat. The only problem with platforms on IOs is that they have to sit so high, but at least you can have one.

That's awsome looking. I got a quote from them as well i have been thinking about making my own but after seeing that I am considering just buying one.

Looks great, how long for the install?
if I get one I will have to install it myself, I am in Ontario, Canada.
how do you find it when up on plain? is it out of the water a bit?
did you have to change your trim sensor setting?
