Still working on the old ranger. Everything seems to be working OK thanks to the advice I have received from this site. Fishing yesterday a storm started moving in, so I went to wot to beat the storm. I noticed the RPMs went to 5400 and the speed 53 MPH (according to my GPS). I thought it ran faster earlier this spring. Is this about right for a 1986 Ranger with a 150 black Max?

Thanks, I forgot I was running with about 10 gallons of gas more than before. Thought something may be going wrong.

Hot weather plays heck on a naturally aspirated motor which is what your motor is. My '85 Ranger 340V, with probably the same motor, 150XR2, 25 pitch prop, was running 63 mph with just me and about 1/2 tank of fuel and no water in the livewells this spring. Now that the weather has gotten hot, I can only get about 53-56 mph GPS. The older Mercs just like colder weather. BTW, when I can get my fat *** out of bed, early, early in the morning, to go fishing, my motor runs better. It's just the nature of the beast.

Thanks, good reply. It has been hot here in Alabama for sure. Maybe if you can get up about 4:30 AM we can go fishing. So I guess the boat is running about normal. Thanks again.
