Well i just bought a 89 renken with the 5.0ho in it and looked at the motor and just relized it was a 2bbl with a 175 hp rating for a v8 by switching to a 1409 eldelbrock will this even make a difference and what other upgrades wuld help like gettin rid of the point and goin with electronics maybe different heads the motor is in precstine condition and i just would like a little more out of it.

The 5.0HO was Ford, but not a 2BBL! Aftermarket heads and intake will wake it up greatly,and keep the marine cam thats in it.

really all the books and i even looked at the carb its a 2 barrel and any recommendations on a set of heads and intake i was lookin at the edelbrock 1409 car with the performer intake but as for the heads idk.also yes this its the ford 302 ive been researching is this the 175hp or the 225hp

My 5.0 HO has a 2 barrel as well.

As far as heads, all the HO's came with 351 heads.

Mine is a 95 190 HP. Not sure what the difference between the 89 and 95 though.

Not much ford experience here, but I have heard many recomendations for the GT40 heads as a torque builder.

I wouldn't waste time swapping the heads unless you plan on rebuildin the engine. The GT40 heads are some of the best from the 351's, but it's not worth the effort. Swapping to the Edelbrock Performer intake and 1409 carb will get you up to 220HP or so. If you were wanting to get a lot of horsepower/tq I'd just swap in a 351 long block and bolt on most of the old parts which would get you upwards of 260HP w/4bbl.
