hey i've been doing research and have found someone who has created a tube that you attach an air compressor to force oil and lubricant through the steering cable. Im wandering if someone has built one themselves or if they know where i can find a picture and information. i have found links on other forums but for somereason my computer won't take me to it. All info is appreciated.

Don't have a pic but I seen one once that was a 1' piece of hose with a schrader valve on one end. The other end was open and they hose clamped it to the cable. They used a bike pump to push it in. No idea how well it worked.

Steering cables are not serviceable. If they get stiff they are worn on the inside and should be replaced.

The inside of a cable is lined with a synthetic (nylon, teflon, etc.) liner that works with the covering on the cable to provide minimum resistance. When the cable gets stiff it is not due to needing lube it is because one or the other has been worn and it will soon be tearing it's way thru the outer or binding up due to broken cable strands.

The problem with lubing them is you may think it is fine but eventually the cable will fray and jam. This would not be good in a high speed turn or during an avoidance maneuver.

Re: how to make a homemade steering luber

my problem is that the tube that slides into the motor is stuck. im trying to clean it out and get it to slide back and forth. right now the cable is hanging out the back and im trying to fix it before i put the motor back on. Im not very familiar with boat terminology. This is my first boat and im having my father-in-law help me. can the tube be taken apart and a new one put on.
just to be clear i belive the part that is frozen is the steering tube or pivot tube

A pic of what you are trying to do would be helpful.
