Re: Boat repair school help
tho its not an accredited course......there is enough info in the restoration section to cover three times what classes may teach you.....thats why we call this place boat university.
we are fortunate to have people like ondarvr posting here.......a nationally known true fiberglass/gellcoat professional that has not only been working with the stuff for years...and then went into the sales distribution end. he actually teaches the teachers on how to properly use the products.
cook composite products in kansas city has several classes on various applications of frp's
in canada there is no certification you can receive for boat building other than ship wright...(witch is a wooden ship building accreditation) and a naval architect.
we do have certifed hull inspectors....but this is just a basic systems test of various aspects of the marine applications functions....
the last hull inspector we had in they boat yard, wrote a note to the owner of the 30 footer we rebuilt that he had not ever seen the high quality of the work we had done...
all we did was make a transom glass it in and gellcoat it.
(mind you....it did look purty

)
id suggest that you read....read....read....read.here....then pick up a project boat......build it.....sell it....then another....by the fourth boat.....you will know what you are doing.
then go get a job in a boat yard.
but dont forget that the entire industry is in the dumps and finding work will be hard unless you go it on your own.
and also unless you are going for a naval architect or are fixing yachts in dubai...forget about making a two hundred thousand a year.
cheers
