It is always a good idea to replace them as most water intrusion into the gear case is caused by those rascals. Do not remove the phillips screw. Best of luck. Rick.

They should not be o-rings, but flat nylon washers, unless someone has switched the plugs.

The MQ was a brand new motor for 1964 and it carried over unchanged (except for decals) for 1965. In 1966 they changed the cowl latch, motor mounts and I believe they also may have changed carb and/or timing in order to get more economy out of cruise operation. The best bet is to get the model year-specific OEM manual.

For nearly everything the newer manual should be fine. If it were me and I were planning on going through the whole motor I would consider the 1969 manual but keep looking for the right 1965 manual.
