Saturday I took my 175 series Sea Ray bowrider out for the day. All day long it ran like new, then on the way back I was running low on fuel, we made it in by the launch WOT getting close to the launch I throttled down and we ran out of gas 100 feet from the dock, On the way home we stopped for fuel cuz I always flush my engine after going out on the bay and got it home, tried to start and nothing. Engine just turns over. I disconnected hard fuel line at carb and we're getting gas so it's not the fuel pump. I just now tried using starting fluid and nothin. I changed the coil and still nothing. I took the screws off the cut off switch and let it float and nothing. I'm going to take out plugs and check for spark seems I'm not getting any or a shut off switch needs to be reset but don't know where to look. My circuit break is stuck where I can't push it in. Would this play a part in the ignition? Any suggestions???

To find out if the reset is the problem take a multi-meter and check for 12v at both connections ( Red to a post, Black to a good ground ).

Maybe you didnt run out of gas, but have a spark issue.

Ok get this guys, I look at voltages on the coil, the circuit breaker, someting told me to try the ignition module, luckily I still had the old one. The one that was in there is only a month old, I put the old one in tried to start it, brrrmmm!!! started right up. Now for my new question, lol, what on earth would cause the ignition module to fail just from running out of gas???

probably just bad timing. Like bad karma. sounds like you got out of it with minimal disruption , good going

Sounds like you and I have the same boat and believe it or not I'm slowly but surely and hope it stops soon have had just about every problem you could imagine with this thing including the one you just described and the cause of that was that I foolishly bought an after market module when mine failed I took it bacl to napa and thay gave me the oem delco mod I had to pay the extra $ but it was well worth it and the failure caause was after teasting for a 5 minute cycle was over heating not properly shielded or not shielded good enough. I hope this answers your question and if you did buy the ac mod take it back and see if they will reinburse if it is'nt that old.
