Hello, my young sons and I are rebuilding a 1986 EV 150 (E150STLCDC) in our garage. We've got it torn all down and about to take the block to the machine shop. We want to order the rebuild kit (about $800) but we don't know what size pistons to order (.015, .030, etc). Our machinist is a "car motor" type but can he tell us what size pistons/rings we need? If not, how do boat mechanics approach this problem of oversizing?

Thanks,
lmarty

try to find a marine machinist. most automotive shops dont understnd port chamfering.
make it to small and it hangs rings,to large and it hangs rings.
other than that the machisist will bore the cyl to the next servicable oversize and then tell you what oversize its bored to.

Just rebuilt my 150 and it cost me $25 a cylinder to bore .20 over. I had to have a sleeve replaced and got the rebuild kit though the machine shop, cost me $1000 for all.:D
