What is the biggest recommended engine size for this boat? This is my fist boat and I am in a learning curve. I got the boat and trailer for free, but I need to find a motor for it. Any help would be great, thanks!!!

What type of 14' is it? If its something like mine its rated for a 40hp, but if its a shallow style row boat it would be much less.

Sounds like a shallow row boat, but without seeing it cant say for sure. Probably be safe with something like a 9.9hp. A brand new Starcraft SL 14 that has the 3 benches is rated for up to a 15hp.

I'd drop a nice new 350hp Mercury Outboard on that thing, the back end will sit a little low but once you get going, you'll be fine, Oh.. dont stop quick.

A 9.9 is a good size as many lakes and ponds have restrictions of less than 10hp, and the 9.9 is to get under that but be close to 10hp. And some states have registration restrictions that if you have 10hp or more you need to reg the boat.

I would make sure the transom wood was solid before putting an engine on it..

Welcome !!
