I've got a 1996 115hp Johnson looper. The thing smokes pretty bad at idle. I want to check out the recirc valves, got the syringe and isopropal alchohol. the ports on the block take fluid both ways. the ports on the intake manifold don't seem to take it either way. What is the proper result when testing these check valves? should the block ports go both ways and what's up with the intake valves, blocked? Can these be removed and cleaned?
2nd question - I just put in a new solenoid because I'd stripped the positive battery terminal while replacing a regulator rectifier. first time out it was fine started right up and charged fine. The second trip a week later it's not throwing the starter gear just spinning, after a few turns of the key it catches. Did I get a bad solenoid or screw something else up?
