Steering a bus without power steering..?

My Merc with an alpha one gen 2 outdrive is soooo hard to steer. I do have manual steering (so I know its not going to be amazing) but its really difficult to turn this boat around. What should I be lubing or is there a trick to making this set up a little easier to turn?
