Will these rectifiers work?

I see a lot of posts about replacing rectifiers and the associated costs. I have never had to replace an OMC rectifier but on my Merc I used this one and it worked great, and I know that a lot of the Merc guys in that forum have used them.

The picture doesn't show it but there are 4 prongs on the other side to hook the wires into.

Yes it'll work but only in place of the 3 wire, not the 4 wire, non regulated (round) types.

It's convenient to get one with spade terminals if possible.

It'll need a connection from ground to the negative terminal.. thats the case on the round rectifiers. Yellows to the terminals probably marked ~ and red to the + terminal

Yes they work perfectly, my 83 90hp Johnson has one on it.

Re: Will these rectifiers work?

OK let me see if I understand this.

I'm about convinced the rectifier on my 1990 Johnson 90 is shot. The tach doesn't work on the grey or either yellow wire, but the voltage does go up at higher rpm's and the battery appears to stay up. I am taking the boat to a friendly marine tech who will do some other test tomorrow to determine if it is indeed shot.

If the rectifier is shot can I use one of these to replace it instead of pulling the flywheel and changing out the water cooled more expensive one?

No, it won't replace the water cooled rectifier/regulator. Only the 3 wire "round" ones as already stated.

Re: Will these rectifiers work?

Thanks F R, is there an easy replacement for the water cooled one? I read somewhere about guys using the air cooled rectifier from a 70 HP T/T motor, anyone tried that? If I can safely replace this thing without tearing the flywheel off, I'd like to.

Rectifier on a tilt and trim motor??? There is no need for one, the motor operates on DC already.
