Re: How many of you are watching the fireworks from your boat this yr?

Ours were last night, Canada Day. We're kind of competitive, so we like to celebrate before you guys. :) We do the same at Thanksgiving to make people think that we were here first. ;)
I suggested the boat thing to my wife, but it's a 2 hour voyage to the nearest display, even though it is less than 10 miles as the crows fly. Nice trip there, but home in the dark would be a drag especially if Lake Ontario got rough.
I watched out my window. I saw enough to make me smile.

I have been out near Milwaukee,WI where the big fireworks show draws about 800,000 people, so it is a zoo on the lake and on the lakefront.
It is especially fun to watch from the water .Impressive show that goes for an hour!:D just not my cup of tea anymore.

There is this going on too- in the same area where they launch the big show on the 3rd.

Me.
Hudson River in lower Manhattan, NYC.

Used to go to Jones Beach on the south shore of Long Island but State budget cancelled the show this year. :(

Before the tyke, I used to do it regularly. Not so much, anymore. I will be taking him Sunday night, but don't want to be out in a canal with him on the fourth - too many unknowns, darkness, drunks, etc.

Missed our Canada Day fireworks on the boat this year, but next year it'll be ready! Will be much more fun moored behind the parliament buildings for the night having drinks.

i've done the last two years on the water watching the fireworks, then sleep on board overnight. it has worked pretty good. i just go to my main watering hole that's 20 miles away from me. last year, it was a very good show but i woke up to rain in the morning. like all (4 or 5 hours of rain) the next morning. which was ok as my boat can be fully enclosed. the big plus side of that was i had the lake to my self that morning. it was pretty darn fun.

don't know what's gonna happen this year. 20% chance of rain today, 60% chance tonight, 80% chance tomorrow... :( that's pretty good odds on rain. if i think i can get away with finding a window to come home on sun. that isn't raining. i may go for it again. but i've not made up my mind as to what will happen yet... i'm just watching the radar right now and will be most of the day till i make my decision... i wanna go, but wanna, and do, may be two different things this year.

even w/o LOTS of boats, night boating can be confusing. night boating is nothing like day boating... i'll second take a gps..

Well we made it back... Wife and kids had a great time. There were hundreds of boats. I started getting a little nervous when i realized how many were there. didn't know you could fit that many boats in a little slew.

It was great thought everyone was traveling in lines (following each others wakes) and didn't really break a wake till crowd thinned out. Kids were kinda scared on the way back just the was no moon light and it was there first time out at night. We made it back to the house at around 11ish.

I'm also a Canuck and watched fireworks on our small lake (have every year for the past 3 years) Much more enjoyable on the boat.

Weather was perfect, ocean layed down for an easy ride, Macy's 4th on the Hudson was amazing, no incidents, alot of laughs with old friends. :)

No pics - Sorry - Wife took camera with her to see her Family out of state this weekend. Hudson was nice this weekend. Not as much traffic as I expected. Stayed down by the Battery to view the show. You're closer than I am to Manhattan (I sailed out of Jones Inlet). Next time I sail west from USMMA up the river I'll try to remember to snap a few.
