Re: 1985 125 force overheating

I would be concerned that the motor over heated and did some serious internal damage that it won't start or run. Do the basics first. Check compression, spark and fuel delivery.

Overheating is commonly caused by a bad impeller, but it also can be due to blown head gasket, fuel mixture too lean, clogged water jacket passages.

Since this is a new motor to you, the compression readings are important as they will give you a general idea as to what shape the rings and cylinders are in. If the readings are really low, it may mean you need bore the cylinders and replace the pistons and rings. This is not uncommon to have to do to a motor that has over heated.

May not be worth spending the money on an impeller only to find out you have to spend hundreds of dollars on new pistons and rings.

If it overheated the impeller is probably part of the problem.
Start with a compression and a spark test.Sometimes when they get hot they loose compression. If those are ok then change the impeller.J
