My throttle is hard to work. It shifts with no problem. I think the problem
is in the throttle control itself. The shifter also contains the starter switch
and who knows what else. Anyone ever had on apart so I know what I will
be getting into if I take mine apart. They probably are all pertty much the same but I never had the pleasure of taking one apart. I don't want any suprises when I do it and I can't get it back togather.

Thanks in advance.

Raptor,
What motor and type of shifter do you have? I/O? O/B? Merc? OMC? Yamaha? Side Mount? Top Mount? Then we can start...;)

Re: Throttle Stiff 89 Bass Tracker Pro

most of those old trackers have mercs on em im thinking..

the way you describe the problem it sounds more like the throttle cable is causing your problem, not the controls. you say it shifts good but not throttle, and since they are separate cables it seems the throttle cable is stickin. try taking the throttle cable off of the motor and then shift it.

if it is the box, well they arent too complicated really. in my experience if the controls box gets really stiff, it is due to heavy corrosion inside and you end up replacing the whole thing.

Look on the end of your shifter box. There might be a screw you can turn for
tension. It will be toward the front.

The motor is a 40 Evenrude OB. It is a sidemount shifter with throttle and
trim button on the lever. The trim is not working so I am not worried about
that. I trim it by hand. I will check the cable first. Not to crazy about
ripping the unit apart.

Thanks
