2001 johnson. Above 2500 rpm miss firing, but not continuously. New diapragm VRO, Carburetta's rebuilt, still same. Then found stator coils overheated. Replaced stator with second hand one. It ran OK for the first Trials. The next time out back to missing badly. Stator checked out OK. Suspect faulty part or earth fault. Any Idea's. Getting expensive.

You might try using a flash tube or clamp on timing light to see if you can find the cylinder that is misfiring?
