steering cable removal on a 1975 75hp evinrude

Can someone out there give me some advice on how to remove the steering cable from 75hp 1975 evinrude ..as I am hving difficulty and can't find any info in the manual..thanks

What type of cable do you have, the type that goes through the pivot tube?

yes it goes through the pivot tube, having trouble getting the cable out of the pivot tube..

Sometimes you need to hoist the engine off the transom for clearance, the cable will not bend sharp enough to clear. I used a cherry picker engine hoist, cheap from craigslist if you need one.

before takeing motor off all i did was disconect everything and slide motor to one side of transom then pull cable out of tube
