I am planning or having my transom rebuilt this fall/winter and im curious if there is a universal mounting bracket I can mount to the transom and then mount the motor to the bracket. The motor may one day change and i would like to avoid drilling a bunch of holes in a new transom but have some sort of bracket which accommodates a wide range of motors.

You REALLY need to give us a boat mdl/size/type & motor size/mdl to even start to help

How big is the motor?
There are many types of motor brackets and jack plates available....

All new outboards have the same mounting hole positions on their brackets. I'm not sure of the exact date they standardized but I believe it was mid-late eighties.

You could install a jack-plate or other bracket type but not really required imho.
