I have a 50hp Merc, the original mounting had the screws driven into what looked like flat washers, of course they were dug into my wooden transom. I see T-H Marine makes an inexpensive aluminum transom support, problem is my bolts are only 7 5/8" or 7 3/4" apart, their bracket says 12".

I am assuming that these are made that the transom clamp screws go into the milled holes on these brackets, not in the middle of the bracket. I have been unable to find others that would fit my application, any suggestions?

Here is the bracket:

I hate to booger up my new wooden transom by driving these screws into it unless I have too.

I actually thought of that and I looked at the flat stock that Lowes had, they had some 1/4" x 1 1/2". By the time I buy it and make it, I could buy one like the T-H already made and nicer. I may still have to go with this plan though, can't seem to find one ready made in the right size.
