Re: Value Of Motor?

With or without controls? Controls alone on ebay are fetching over $150

With the issues I would venture between 350-500 .....there are MANY MANY MANY valuable parts on that motor. Parted out will get you a ton more money if you have the time and inclination ;)

I do have the whole control stuff for a CENTER CONSOLE setup :)
Thought about parting it out (Ebay mabe) but my pontoon project has took a LOT outta me

I offered it to one guy complete with boat & trailor (pic below) for $750 but he acted like i was trying to rape him

Re: Value Of Motor?

fairly clean looking, in my area it would be worth about 20cents per pound.
would cost abot 1400 in parts to overhaul it and about 15 hours labor.
myself I could most likly sell it for about 500 dollars.
1500 running perfect.

Re: Value Of Motor?

sleeve one hole, bore 3 and you spent almost 400 dollars,4 pistons,a bearing kit and you spent close to 600.
add on carb kits, fuel pumps,t-stat kit and inspecting and reasealing the gearcase and you added another 200 in parts.\
thats a rebuild not a patchem up.
parts get rather expensive and labor is just that.
my area is saltwater so getting most the fastners out on a motor that old requires time,oxy/acetylyne and drill bits and taps and such.
thats why i my area used engines go cheap, especially on that old.

I am sorry you dont like the price but it is what it is.
its why the local market will dictate the selling price.

Re: Value Of Motor?

and I told you the value in my area.
running perfect in my area it would sell for around 1000 to 1500 dollars.
needing a rebuild 100-500 depending on who was buying it and why.
I part them out all the time.
the value in your area may be more or less.
but the parts cost of the project pretty much exceed the engines value when runnig well even if someone did all the labor themselves.

Are you saying $500 for the MOTOR as is & $1500 for the MOTOR running perfectly?

Re: Value Of Motor?

depending on who is buying it and why, I personnaly would not go over 150.
NADA book value on that motor runing well is 135.
thats why I say local market will dictate price.
in my area it would sell for between 300 and 500 if your patient,1000 to 1500 running perfect if your patient.

Re: Value Of Motor?

I think 750 for your boat, motor and trailer was an OK price, based on the picture. The trailer looks to be in good shape, the boat looks serviceable and taken care of, and the motor is worth a couple of hundred bucks

I figure I owe you an apoligy
I first thought you were saying the whole package was only worth $500 & $1500 in perfect condition :(
I pretty much agree on value of motor :)
Kind of frustrating tho- power T&T would cost $200 used around here, lower unit way more than that
Oh well, luckly i'm not hurting to sell it, i'm running a Johnson 110 now & the xtra parts might come in handy

Re: Value Of Motor?

thats what I do occasionally.
get a motor with a blown powerhead thats really not worth investing the time and money in.
strip the gearcase, inspect it and reaseal it,sell it for 700 or better.
trim units get stripped, resealed and inspected,I can get another 700.
rods that are servicable go for 50 cranks another 100 to 300 depending on the motor.
then all the other niggly little parts.
may take a year or so to sell them but very little money or time was invested.
that boat and trailer here would fetch the 750 pretty quick.

Re: Value Of Motor?

your boat/motor/trailer package would fetch up to $2700 Cdn. nice lookin boat. $750 i woulda bought the who package at the drop of a hat. bought a nice project boat instead though. $225 boat and motor only. and the motor needed a new lower unit (which I bought for $250, after a 3 hour drive one way to pick it up....rebuilt though, so worth the 60 bucks or so in fuel it cost to go get it) ... if there were noses turned at the deal you've got to offer....I think I need to move!
