2001 9.8 2stroke leak!!!!

ok so I finaly got the trailer and boat all set was ready to go fishing when I noticed a leak where the lower unit meets the shaft, I dont know a whole lot about motors so I am posting some pics incase my terminoligy is bad. the leak is not comming from the oil fill or vent holes.

Assuming you have a 2-stroke (what is the precise model?)...

Looks like typical unburned fuel/oil residue. Nothing to worry about.

Yes. That was the first gap where the goo could follow gravity out of the exhaust housing. You may also see that stuff inside the prop hub from time to time/

Re torque under tail bolts if slightly loose, if the gap still exists, fill with some plastic cement or grey silicone, eventually what was exiting from exhaust gap, will exit through prop. Check you gas/oil mixture 50:1, probably been adding to much oil.

thanks guys!!! The old owner was running 25 to 1 mix and i just got the motor carb cleaned and have run only about 2 galons of 50 to 1 through it boat teach said the same thing you all did

So the last owner was eternally breking-in the engine at 25:1 will take some time to get rid of pre existing oil junk through prop.
