I have a 2003 Mercruiser MCM 5.0 305 CID L/H engine on my 22 ft deck boat. The boat has not been run for 2 yrs. ( I was deployed to Iraq) Knowing that I have to rebuild the carb, clean tank, change water sep filter etc. I can not figure out what rebuild kit to buy. The carb has no numbers or marking on it. It looks like a Sierra 2 BBL but not sure. How can I determine?
Also how is the best way to verify the fuel pump is working if the engine will not start? I dont want to replace if it's ok. ( looks like a mallory electric)
I removed the water separatorfilter and turned over the engine but no fuel came out.

Re: Need help ID'ing Carb

I can't imagine a 2003 engine in MO would have anything but the original carb and ignition system.
best thing you could do is post the Mercruiser serial number for your engine (nothing goes by year) and lets see what you should really have.

Or if in doubt just post a photo of it.

Will do. I just have to wait till this storm passes and try and find the number. I bought the boat new in 2004 from a dealer in Texas where I was stationed at the time.
Any suggestions on the fuel pump test?

Re: Need help ID'ing Carb

After much fanfare, bad weather, raccoons in the corn, missing dog, cattle out of the pasture on the Highway, etc. I finally have the serial # of the engine: OWO17264
Engine Family: 4M9XM05.02VC Date of Manufacture: 3/2004

Absolutely no numbers anywhere on the 2 barrel carb that desperately needs a rebuild kit, if nothing else, to replace the gaskets that I tore taking it apart!

Any and all help is appreciated ID'ing this carb so I can order a rebuild kit and maybe a reccomendation on where to obtain one.
Thanks in advance

On the choke horn are three sets of numbers. The middle one is often a 5 digit holley carb number, like 75094. Holley's website has a numerical listing and will have the gasket kit, complete rebuild kit (rarely needed) and if you can find the exact carb number for that Holley 2300 series, you can email them and they will get right back to you. Their customer service is great.

Sadley the link say's "gone forever"

I do believe after research that it is a Merc Carb.. Not a Holley. After years of messing with Holleys on cars I would reconize that.
Still dont know which kit to order.
