I am thinking about getting a small, 16 to 19 foot boat that has a good hull and can handle waves. I really like the cobalt cs7 . Any other ideas?

There's a huge difference between a 16' and 19' boat, they aren't even close to being in the same league. First decide how you want to use it and the number of people, this will narrow it down to the type of boat, then just start looking and asking questions.

Yeah that was sort of the point I was trying to make with the smart alec fishin comment. Not only are you going to get a different answer from people who use a boat for different reasons but you will also get a different answer from people in different regions. I'm sure the boat the OP mentioned is a fine boat but here in Florida you won't find many of them. It is probably quite popular in the Midwest though.

Might as well stop your search now, you will NEVER find the 'best' boat, ever!! No such animal exists. All boats are a compromise in one area or another. A good fishing boat makes a horrible family runabout for water sports. A great bay boat that excels in the skinny won't be able to handle waves, etc... (the list goes on forever!)

so list your qualifications and people can give advice.

you should get a 16, and a 19, and probably a 17 while you're at it. One for cruising flat lakes, one for flats fishing, and one for bays and open water. One with lots of carpet and upholstery you have to clean and cover and one all fiberglass you can hose off and forget. One you paint the bottom and the other you wax the bottom. Get an I/O, an outboard and a jet drive.
Then no one here can tell you what to do.

Cookin, you are right on the money. Now all he has to do is convince his wife.

I own an '82 Cobalt CS7. If you like its design for cruising on lakes and rivers, this boat will do the job in nice fashion. Yes, the rumble seat offers the nice option for the little ones to enjoy their ride without any worry of them falling out at fast speeds and rough waters. BUT, as a regualr family boat with more than four people on a regular basis, this is not the boat for you. Sure, it can handle up to seven passengers, but that doesn't mean they are always comfortable at maximum capacity. Now, if you still desire one, there is a nice model for sale in New jersey on Craigslist. And, if you rally wish to throw money around, there is one in LA that was "restored" to supposed showroom condition. I think the one in New Jersey show that the original interior is almost pristine, which means it was either well taken care of, or hardly used. Do your homework....:)

Re: Best 16-19 Foot boat

Thanks for the replys everyone. The thing i need most in a boat is a good hull that can get me home. I live on buzzards bay in Massachusetts and almost every day it kicks up to a 2-4 ft swell

I'd be looking at a 20 to 22 footer as a minimum if thats the case.
