1996 evinrude 150 only runs when disconnected from boat

Motor only runs if disconnected from boat. Jump the starter it cranks right up. As soon as you plug it in to the boat it dies. Changed ignition, checked kill switch both good. Does anyone know what else I could look for. I am out of town on vacation so I dont have my book. Trying to getbackon the water. Thanks

Are you using another battery source to jump your starter? If so it maybe a bad battery in the boat. If not then maybe you need to check the wire on your engine harness that goes to the starter solenoid which is under the starter and I think should be yellow with a red stripe and a black one on it as well next to it.

AHHH just found the problem. the purple ignition wire had a jumper wire on it that was causing a bad connection. Looked right at it yesterday and didnt even think nothing of it. Removed it spliced the wire and cranked right up. LIFE IS GOOD AGAIN!
