Evinrude Control problems

Nearing the end of a transom restoration and just re-attached the conrols. It's a 2006 evinrude singel binacle control. I can move the throttle all the way back in reverse, but not in forward. I don't have a battery hooked up yet and wondering if that has something to do with it. There is a fair amount of slack in the throttle cables, could it be that there is a bend, to much twisting or a kink in them? Have a big boating weekend planned and any help is appreciated
Thanks

Motor is an 06 etec 90 hp. I did have the cowling off when I took the motor off but we did not remove the throttle controls from motor or control box. Could I have bumped something under the cowling?

Could you have mixed up the throttle and shift cables when you but the control box back together?

Try rotating the prop with your hand to see if it's actually going into reverse with the throttle all the way back. Then check again if it's in neutral when the controls are in the neutral position.

Battery power is not required.

Re: Evinrude Control problems

I was hoping it was just because it needed a battery, but knew that was unlikely. I never disconnected the cables so they aren't mixed up. I think I have to much bend in them and will have to re-route them. Any idea how to disconnect the cables from the control box?

You disconnect the cables from the motor end to re-route them

Re: Evinrude Control problems

Talked to dealer and sounds like I have to tight of a loop in front of the motor, going to take them off tonight and re-route and hope it works. Thanks for the help. Didn't look like much fun taking cable out through the rubber grommet on the motor but sounds like a much better idea than taking them off the controls.

Re: Evinrude Control problems

Thanks for all your help. Somebody mentioned moving the drive shaft a bit, and either that or loosening up a loop in the cables made it work like new.
