Any thoughts on creating a 'booster' section for these boards?

Okay, so it's just a friendly suggestion to the board... but first thing I did when I registered was look for a section to donate to help out the board. I am on a few sports forums and there is a VIP section (not that it matters) or a booster section. This doesn't matter, but the nice thing is that patrons of the board can donate to the site to help keep it running. $5 for bronze, $10 for Silver, $20 for Gold type thing membership. Free is of course the norm as well. Often donors get a little symbol by their name showing they donated, although this isn't a requirement for most donors.

Anyways, I've been a pain in the butt since joining with countless questions. I'm rejoining the boating world after a 15 year hiatus. I'd love to donate to a board like this. It's invaluable to boaters, novices with engines like me, etc. Just my two cents.

Also, any Michigan boaters know any good mechanics in the mid Michigan area that are affordable? Or maybe you work on engines?

1st and foremost this site is an on-line store. If you want to donate go buy something. At least you'll be getting something in return.

I realize that and plan to. Many sites are, there is a tangible product being exchanged in that matter. Donations are quite different.

Understood. Kinda like a "tips" jar, I guess.

Basically. For example, I've asked nothing but questions as a 'newbie' here with little help in return feedback thus far. I'd like to be able to donate for such resources; even if it's for a communal pool that ultimately helps everyone buy decals for iboats.com or something for their boat. Maybe I work on computers too often during the day with these crazy ideas.

I run a site that caters to a particular brand of boat. I've been in the OEM business for 16 years, so I have other brand owners on there as well. I built the site, I am the sole moderator/administrator of it, and have developed a great following of members who off there assistance as well to their fellow boaters. It takes a lot of my time, but I enjoy it. Because of my contacts in the Marine business, I can steer owners in the right direction to get replacement parts, as well as get some damn good advice, both from myself as well as the more experienced members. Advice that some either may never get, or would cost them a great deal of money...

I've been up and running since March, and in that time have received maybe $350 in donations. Some members have even posted that they'll donate, yet it hasn't come through, and they still ask questions and get advice. Doesn't matter to me, it's the love of boating, so I don't expect anything...

Can't mention my site on here as it is deemed as a competing site...

It's not about the money, although that would be nice...:)
