transom extension cage

Hi all.
I have to do the transom on my 14' 67 searay this winter.
I have been considering also doing a hull extension but after looking at OOPS post I kinda changed my mind. It's just looks like too much work.

Anyway, there is a 2' splash well at the back of my boat and if I put a cage behind the boat (see attached drawing) and move the outboard a couple of feet back from the transom I think I can do away with the splash well and effectively make my boat as roomy as a 16 footer.

What do you guys think?

Ayuh,... How's the motor gonna Tilt,..?? The cage is in the way...

the motor sits outback of the cage, not inside of it. Tilt should be no problem

I think what you're looking to do is an "outboard bracket". Do a search for that and see what you come up with. Here is an example of what I am talking about http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl...q=outboard+bracket&um=1&hl=en&sa=N&tbs=isch:1

It's my understanding that this can be done successfully but it takes quite a bit of planning and figuring because it really throws off the balance of the hull and some boats react very unfavorably to such a modification.

PS I see from your drawing why Bond-O thinks the motor won't be able to tilt, that's how it looks on the diagram. Maybe it's just the drawing?

Thanks for the link emilime75. I was thinking of a stainless steel cage, but those brackets would do me just fine.
