Good day.

I got a Evinrude 1965 18HP outboard engine, and im having trouble making it run propperly.

My English is a bit shabby, but i'll try to explain it as good as i can, so bear with me.

I'm sure the engine gets fuel, but whenever i try starting it i try pulling a few times, often nothing happends, if i use a bit of choke it usually run's unsmoothly for a few seconds, if i try pulling again it just makes a HUGE bang, and it makes those bangs many times when i try pulling it to start, it doesn't make the bang if i actually get it running which happend 1/100 times.

I can try provide more information if needed, but that is the general problem, that is simply wont run.

Hoping you can give me some tips, and please use simple words as i'm Norwegian.

Cheers

By bang, do you mean a backfire? Maybe crossed plug wires?

Take a look at the Top Secret File which is the first post under the Johnson/Evinrude, it has some good info on how to test a motor....have you tried spraying fuel/oil mix in the carb to see if it will start. If it does, you know for sure you have a fuel problem.

the bang is like when i try to pull the cord to start the engine, it just makes 1 big bang and nothing more, and smoke comes out.

I'll check the top secret file :) and try figure out what you meant with the carb.

Make sure the front coil is connected to the top spark plug. There should be a band around the top plug wire close to the boot. If the band is on the bottom plug wire, try switching them around.

well the wires isn't crossed, so that might mean it's a backfire. the bang is extremly loud, that's for sure.

Well, if the wires aren't crossed, the next thing I would check is the flywheel key to see if it's sheared. That would put the motor out of synch and could cause your backfire.
