I was left a old mid 1950's Evinrude Aquasonic Fleetwin 7.5 hp outboard. I have no idea if it runs and cant try because there is no hose fitting to connect to the motor. I asked 1 marine mechanic and he said it would cost $130 to order the hose fitting. Well thats not gonna happen cause I dont even know if it runs. It will hit the garbage before I pay that for a 10 dollar item. I know they are not made anymore but they must be around somewhere. Anybody got any ideas? Thanks in advance Bob

Ive got an old , i think Tempo brand one for a pick up on the bottom of the cavitation plate. But i would not buy any thing for that old motor. Take a plastic garbage can and fill it full to the water level or take a large rubbermade container and set it ontop of something so that the motor can be put into it. A trash can will allow you enough water capacity to start run and tune a motor long before worring about recirculating the water and heating it up to much.

Didn't know they ever came with any sort of hose connector.
Cant you improvise something.
Cant you simply run it in a barrel or trash can, old water tank or what ever as many others do. Its better like that anyway. You don't get your feet wet and the exhaust noise is silenced
Mine does not have any hose connection and it cannot run with muffs but it does not stop me.

You do have to be careful SWMBO doesn't use the same bin for other proposes though!

Um, guys.... I think he is talking about the twin hose fuel connector. Yep, they are about $100 these days.

Connect your tank hoses directly to the nipples on the carburetor and manifold for a test.

I bought a couple of junk, rusted-out tanks for $2 each. But they had fuel connectors on them. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't.

Thanks for the replys. What I may do is toss the motor in the trash can pictured! After reading up on the dangers and hassles of a pressurized tank.....and prices on the double hose fitting, etc...screw it. Craigslist it goes.

there is absolutely nothing wrong with a proper maintained pressure tank. as F_R said connect to the carb, and pulse fitting on the motor, that is all the hoses to the fancy expensive connector does.

if not send it to me.

Don?t throw it in the trash. I had a friend give me an early vintage Mercury. Cleaning out the garage & tired of moving I put it in the drop box. There is not a week that goes by that I don?t regret that choice +25 yrs ago..

You can just run the hose directly to the fittings on the motor and clamp them there.

Do you really think that 6 gallons of gas under about 4 psi is really that much more dangerous that 6 gallons of gas with an open vent? ;)

Too much of a hassle. Im used to good equipment. Its for my son and I dont want to give him a piece of old junk even though it may run ok. Im gonna look for a newer one and sell this POS.
Thanks.

That rude on the top left has a hose fitting for it to run. My fater in law had one for his 76 25 hp. When i go to his house in a coup;le weeks, i will take the pic if i think about it. I dont think they have made them in 30 years. Tempo made it.

I highly recommend this brand new, 5 hp Briggs and Stratton on sale now here at iboats:

It will be a much better choice for you, given it's modern design and features.
Pawn off the old Evinrude on someone else.

You can pick one up on eBay. I have seen a few up there up there recently. I actually bid on one today. I just wanted it as a spare and did not bid high, but it sold for only $17.

Put some premix in a squirt bottle and shoot it in the carbs. If it fires it may be worth keeping, if not then decide. If they were taken care of they don't require any more maintenance than a new one.

If it's hassle free your looking for, and it sounds like you are, I would recommend a new 10 or 15 Hp Honda four stroke. It will have a guarantee as well although you'll probably never need it. Rick.

Is there really any such thing as hassle free in regards to an outboard?
They all have to be maintained, as your from my neck of the woods, stored properly. To be honest, if your looking for used from a private seller your looking for as much if not more hassle than the one you have now.
